True personal development is almost impossible when you are surrounded by negativity in your relationships at home or facing negative conversations on a regular basis. On the other hand, your success is much more likely when your relationships are secure, productive and joyful. However, if your relationship is negative and tends to bring you down, there are ways to begin improving the relationship without abandoning it.

Test yourself:

  • If you rate yourself on number of positive communications out of 10, would your number be higher than 8?, 7?, 6? If your communications are not positive at least 4 out of 5 times, you may be starting a downward spiral. The reality, is that negative communications do happen. But if we can look at them from a learning perspective rather than labeling ourselves or someone else as being negative, we will be able to reduce the number. As soon as we begin labelling or seeing with negative eyes, the communications begin to decline.
  • Do you feel positive about people you are around frequently and do they also feel positive about you? The natural tendency is to judge others by our own standards. Unfortunately, other's live up to their own standards, not ours. Just like you live up to your standards and not theirs. Far too often, what we expect doesn't happen and we feel let down.

If you feel down too often, my first suggestion is this. Call for assistance. There is hope for your relationship.

If you live in our local area (Bolton, Ontario), although we sometimes use an office location, more often than not, you will be invited right into my own home because it provides  a safe, comfortable  and welcoming environment where we have room to do some of the experiential exercises that are part of the coaching experience. Coaching, unlike counseling, has a way of creating an experience for your learning rather than just talking about it. If you live in another location nearby, (i.e. within the Toronto Area), we can arrange a visit to your location or call upon another coach in our network of colleagues that can service you around various locations in North America. We also can provide services by phone.
